Defending Morgan Mountain Mercenaries Book 3 Audible Audio Edition Susan Stoker Stella Bloom Brilliance Audio Books Reviews

  • The characterizations in the Mountain Mercenaries series are very likable and heroic. Maybe it’s because they focus on saving women and children “in precarious situations”. I feel like these books stand alone well, so could be read out of order.

Who could possibly hate a beekeeper enough to have her kidnapped, drugged, taken out of the country to a poor and dangerous section of the Caribbean, where she is repeatedly raped and almost starved? Morgan Byrd has been missing for close to a year, when she is accidentally found by 3 of the MM. A week or so before she is found, Nina, a 5-year-old terrified girl is put in the hovel with Morgan. The MM volunteer to find Nina and bring her home. Finding Morgan is a bonus, especially to Archer “Arrow” Kane, who feels an immediate affinity for a strong and brave woman.

Their escape and search for the evil who had Morgan kidnapped is engrossing and entertaining. Maybe the best of the story is the description of the feelings and fears of someone after they’ve been raped for a long period of time. The care and treatment of Morgan, and her responses is well-told with compassion and understanding. The who-done-it is also well-done and difficult to guess! A really quick and easy, but thoughtful story to read.
  • DEFENDING MORGAN by Susan Stoker. To say I loved this book is a bit of an understatement. Morgan and Arrow are one of the best couples I've read about - they just clicked. Arrow rescues Morgan and helps her get back on her feet. Morgan struggles to return to her normal, all the while danger lurks. I liked Morgan, despite being traumatized, she is still strong yet recognizes when she might need some help. Arrow is strong and sexy and so patient and understanding when it comes to Morgan that my heart melted. As for the story. it is one of adventure, danger and mystery - my cup of tea. Ms. Stoker keeps the reader on their toes while trying to figure out who the bad guy is. If you haven't had a chance to read any books from this series, Mountain Mercenaries, I highly recommend, not just this one, but all in the series. (Note - can be read as a standalone)
  • Defending Morgan will break your heart and renew your faith in the healing power of love. Morgan is strong and smart and I love that Arrow saw that in her right away. I love that Arrow is patient and kind even though he is a fierce warrior. This story is a fabulous addition to the series. Make sure you have the tissues handy.
  • Archer Kane or "Arrow" as he is nicknamed heads to the Dominican Republic to locate a five year old girl taken by her father. What he finds there changed his life. He not only finds the girl but his team of 3 finds Morgan Byrd a small woman ready to defend the little girl to the death.

Morgan disappeared a year ago and he father has done everything he can to keep her name in the press. Morgan made me think of another of Ms. Stoker's characters, Fiona from "Protecting Fiona". They have a lot in common and yet there are different. Morgan learned to quietly accept what was happening to her, she is strong yet vulnerable. She instantly trust Arrow to get her to safety and that is what her focus in on, getting out of hell. She fights her way back and Arrow is there every step of the way to help her with whatever she needs but first they need to figure out who had her kidnapped and why. Because someone is out there waiting to to get her back.

This story is full of action and twists and turns. I have to admit that I didn't see the ending coming. Archer is so patient and loving with Morgan and he falls hard and fast. Morgan doesn't feel deserving of him and doesn't even know if she can be a whole woman again. Arrow helps her heal as do going to therapy. She is an amazing character and she really reminded me of Fiona in that they both survived so much even though there stories were different they were some similarities as well. It would be interesting to have a story where the two of the meet but that's just my opinion.

This story was amazing and the series just gets better and better. It was hard to put down and all I could think of was getting back to the book. I needed to see how this ended. But that is like that with all of Ms. Stroker's books.
  • First of all, this story is E P I C! Morgan's strength is what draws Arrow to her, and it's what draws the reader in, as well. At least, it did THIS reader!

I love the instant connection, and the car Arrow takes w/ Morgan throughout their story. Even when he has a misstep, he's quick to apologize & do anything & everything to make sure Morgan knows he's there for her. ESPECIALLY during the HEA portion of their HEA. LOVE!!!

We also get to see more interaction w/ Allye & Chloe & their men, and all the Mercenaries show a bit of their hearts. We even get to see more of DAVE, which is cool. AND we have the twisty-like-a-pretzel portion of the story, which is just as delicious! Thumbs way up for this installment of the series & once again the tease for the next book has me counting down the days!! )
  • If you are a Susan Stoker fan you know the saying "this book is her best yet". Well I'm telling you Defending Morgan is her best yet. Oh my goodness there were times that I laughed historically and other times I was ugly crying. I absolutely loved the chemistry between Archer and Morgan. Susan pulls you right into her books as if you are one of her characters. The Mountain Mercenaries series has become my favorite series.
